Holiday Christmas Tree Vegetable Tray Idea: DIY Veggie Platter
Last year, I saw the Christmas Tree Vegetable Tray idea on Pinterest for the first time, and I was fascinated by the idea!
It was such a festive and perfect way to display the necessary and delicious vegetables at any holiday gathering!
I couldn’t wait to try it!!
My husband and children gave me a plethora of handmade wooden cutting boards of varying sizes for Christmas last year, including a very large gorgeous one, so I knew I had the perfect board for doing it!
You can use any tray that you have already, though I thought a wooden one accented the vegetables very nicely.
After giving it some thought, I landed on the following vegetables to make it colorful, Christmassy and festive, while still serving the vegetables that are usually expected and enjoyed.
The beauty of this Christmas tree veggie tray, is that you can really use any selection of veggies that you want to, and it will be lovely!
I chose to use the following vegetable selection for my DIY Holiday vegetable tray.
- Baby cucumbers
- Snap peas
- Red and Yellow bell peppers
- Broccoli florets
- Cauliflower florets
- Red cherry tomatoes
- Multi colored baby carrots (I found a package of baby carrots that had orange, yellow, purple and burgundy colored carrots…it was unusual but so pretty!)
Wash and prepare all veggies and have them ready at hand so that you can let the artistry flow.
Starting with the Cucumbers, I cut them lengthwise and laid them into a tree shape, followed by the snap peas to fill in the gaps.
I then placed the slices of bell pepper overlapping each other across the tree to form the garland.
Then I placed the cherry tomatoes, broccoli florets and short pieces of carrot in various places as if I was decorating the tree with ornaments.
I used a cucumber piece for the trunk, added cauliflower florets across the bottom to resemble snow
and topped it all off by cutting the bottom of a yellow bell pepper into the shape of a star.
There’s really no right or wrong to how you do it. I just tried to use a lot of colorful vegetables so that it looked festive and appetizing.
The important thing here, is to enjoy the creative process and have fun playing with your food!
When I was done making mine, I felt quite accomplished and very satisfied that I had made the veggies look so cool and appealing, so I would highly recommend giving this a try!
Please let me know if you are going to make one and what vegetables you are hoping to use in yours.
I’d love to hear from you!
